Most business courses teach entrepreneurs to calculate the cost of their time per hour. We already know that lawyers and consultants do this but the reason entrepreneurs are encouraged to do it as well is that it helps them to be able to decide which of the tasks that need doing they should be doing themselves and which should be given to their staff. A simple example would be if your time is valued as 25 pounds per hour would cleaning the office from head to foot (something which cleaners charge 10 pounds per hour to do) be a sensible use of your time?
We all do this to some extent, it’s the reason why you hired a kitchen fitter to redo your kitchen rather than ordering the units yourself and following a YouTube video tutorial on how you put them in or engaged a lawyer to sort out the family estate as opposed to reading up on the law and doing it yourself.
